A label printer is a type of printer that is designed specifically for printing labels. Unlike traditional printers that print on standard paper, label printers are designed to handle various label types and sizes, including adhesive-backed labels, wristbands, and receipts. Label printers can be used in various settings, such as retail stores, warehouses, and healthcare facilities, to print labels for products, shipping, inventory, patient identification, and more. They can be connected to a computer or mobile device via USB, Ethernet, or Bluetooth; some models even offer wireless connectivity.

Label printers typically use either thermal transfer or direct thermal printing technology. Thermal transfer printers use a heated ribbon to transfer ink onto the label, while direct thermal printers use heat-sensitive paper that changes color when heat is applied. Both types of printers produce high-quality, durable labels resistant to water, chemicals, and other environmental factors.

What is a label printer?
Label printers are printers that are specially designed for printing individual labels.

As a rule, label printers have an interface, which means that individual data, such as lot numbers, can be taken from ongoing production or from a database. The labels are then individually printed with this information.

How do label printers work?
In the industrial sector, direct thermal and thermal transfer printing are the two most extended processes used by label printers. However, label printers using inkjet printing technology are also common practice.

Label printers have standard functions that are not known from conventional desktop printers. A so-called numerator, for example, automatically counts a specific numerical value inside the printer with each printed label. The date offset feature, on the other hand, automatically determines and prints best-before dates, something quite helpful in the packaging industry.

Another interesting feature of label printers is field linking. This feature enables multiple data to be linked within the same label. For example, a barcode can be printed which is made up of different data stored on the label. This could include weight information, date of manufacture or any other alphanumeric characters.

Could you please clarify whether the label on the product can be scanned using the shipping software, or do I need to create a separate label for this purpose? I am currently experiencing some confusion regarding this matter, and I would greatly appreciate your guidance if you happen to have any relevant knowledge or expertise in this area. Thank you.
