There are two types of Stories on Snapchat:
1. Normal Stories (no icon): When you add a snap to your story, then it is visible to everyone on your friend list for 24 hours unless you have blocked them. These stories are known as Normal or Regular Stories.
2. Private Stories (padlock icon): You can create a private story and choose a group of friends who can view it from your friend list. It is not visible to everyone except for the friends who are included in the private story. These stories are known as Padlock or Private Stories.
