Menendez, been found guilty of receiving bribes in the form of cash, gold and a luxury vehicle from three businessmen based in New Jersey. 13 gold bars and stacks of $480,000 in currency notes was found in the New Jersey senator's home along with a Mercedes Benz gifted to his wife. Prosecutors said that the senator tried to use his power to advance Egyptian military interests, interfere in criminal prosecutions and secure investment from Qatari officials. Menendez, who headed the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee had met with Egyptian intelligence officials and tried to fast-track millions of dollars of military aid to Egypt.
