Typhoon Shanshan Triggers Landslide In Japan After Record Rainfall Three people are missing after Typhoon Shanshan caused a landslide in Gamagori, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The landslide, triggered by heavy rain, buried a family of five late on August 27. One family member is severely injured, and the search continues for the three missing individuals. By 11 p.m. local time on August 27, 138.5 millimeters (5.5 inches) of rain had fallen, surpassing August’s average rainfall. Rescue operations are being conducted by Japan's Ground Self-Defense Force.
