Throughout the day, multiple tornadoes were spotted in various parts of the state. By the evening, the National Weather Service offices in Miami, Tampa and Melbourne had collectively issued 133 tornado warnings. Both Miami and Tampa offices issued 49 warnings each, while Melbourne issued 35.Hurricane Milton, a powerful Category 3 storm, made landfall along Florida’s Gulf Coast at 8:30 p.m. near Siesta Key, bringing 120 mph (205 kph) winds, storm surges and the threat of widespread flooding to regions like Tampa, St. Petersburg and Sarasota. The storm was downgraded to a Category 2 later on the same evening as it moved inland, though it continued to pose significant threats, with expectations of it remaining a hurricane as it crossed the Florida peninsula into 10 October 2024, before re-entering the Atlantic Ocean.
