Taiwan Stages Anti-Landing Drills Simulating Response To Chinese Attack On July 24, Taiwan conducted an anti-landing live fire drill on the outlying island of Penghu, marking the third day of its Han Kuang military exercise. The drill, which simulates a real combat scenario without a script, aims to prepare for a potential Chinese attack. Despite being partially affected by an approaching typhoon, the exercise saw tanks maneuvering down dirt roads and firing at flare targets in the ocean, while soldiers operated mobile missiles and took positions along the coast. The live fire drills are exclusive to Taiwan's outlying islands, such as Kinmen, Matsu, and Penghu, which lie close to the Chinese coast and were historically sites of intermittent clashes during the Cold War. China, viewing Taiwan as its territory, has been increasing military pressure around the island for four years to enforce its claim of sovereignty, a stance Taiwan strongly rejects.
