Shots Fired in Haiti Ahead Of Transition Govt’s Installation Shots were fired near Haiti’s National Palace in the capital Port-au-Prince on April 24, a day before a ceremony to install a stalled presidential transition council takes place. The ceremony is to be hosted on April 25 at the prime minister’s office on the outskirts of the city, not the downtown National Palace, the office of outgoing Prime Minister Ariel Henry announced in a statement on Wednesday. The National Palace has come under repeated fire from armed gangs in recent days. The violence has displaced food vendors, who have taken to selling their products at an improvised street market. On Wednesday, powerful gang leader Jimmy "Barbeque" Cherizier insisted that talks over Haiti's political future must include the gangs.
