Russia Touts New Defence Treaty Ties With Iran, North Korea Vows To Stand With Putin 'Till Victory' Russia and Iran will sign a strategic partnership agreement “in the near future,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said. The announcement comes as political and military ties between the two countries deepen.Lavrov said that the treaty, which is being prepared, will include closer defence cooperation between Moscow and Tehran.The Russian top diplomat made the remarks while addressing the second Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security. The Russian president had announced the agreement on October 23 during a meeting with his Iranian counterpart at the BRICS summit in Kazan. Putin, who has called Russian-Iranian ties a “priority” for his country, invited Iranian Masoud Pezeshkian to visit Russia.Iran’s ambassador to Russia said earlier that the document would be signed during a separate visit of the Iranian president to Russia. Russia has said it expects Masoud Pezeshkian to visit Moscow before the end of the year.
