Pope Francis Warns "Democracy In Bad Health," Labels Social Indifference As “Cancer” Pope Francis expressed concerns about the global state of democracy on July 7, stressing the need for deeper engagement in democratic processes."It's evident that in today's world, democracy, let's face it, is not in good health," Pope Francis said underscoring the urgency of addressing democratic challenges during an event for the 50th Social Week of Catholics in Trieste. He also addressed the issues within social welfare systems, suggesting they sometimes fail to foster community unity, thereby creating social divides."What lies behind this distancing from social reality? It's indifference. And indifference is a cancer of democracy, a non-participation," the Pope said.
