Pakistan Honours Olympic Gold Medalist Nadeem On Independence Day Pakistan marked 77 years of independence on August 14 with traditional flag-raising ceremonies and honoured Arshad Nadeem, who clinched the country's first Olympic medal in athletics.Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hoisted the national flag at the Pakistan Monument in the capital Islamabad and delivered a speech. He laid a floral wreath at the monument, paying homage to the country's founding fathers and national heroes.A police contingent later formed an honour guard for Nadeem at a separate ceremony, where Sharif lauded the gold medallist at the Paris Olympics men's javelin event.British-ruled India was partitioned into two independent nations, India and Pakistan, at midnight on August 14/15 1947.
