Another travel agency, KTG Tours, also announced that tourists would be able to visit the city near the Chinese border this winter.The move is a sign that the reclusive country is readying to reopen borders to bigger groups of foreign tourists after years of strict COVID border controls. North Korea has not been fully open to international tourists since 2020.Samjiyon is near Mount Paektu, the holy mountain where North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's family claims its roots, and he has made multiple visits since 2018, with the official KCNA news agency touting it as the "epitome of modern civilisation".
