Labour Blasts “Unfunded” Commitment As Sunak Pledges To Bring Back Mandatory Military Service In UK UK PM Rishi Sunak announced a future Conservative government would bring back mandatory national service as he attempted to reignite his election campaign. Eighteen-year-olds would be able to apply for one of 30,000 full-time military placements or volunteer one weekend a month carrying out community service. Sunak said he believed the service would help young people learn "real-world skills, do new things and contribute to their country.” Sunak's Conservative Party said the national service would also help divert at-risk young people away from "lives of unemployment and crime."
