‘If War Doesn’t Kill Us, Hunger Will’ Gazans Scramble For Bread Chaotic scenes unfolded as crowds of people gathered in front of a bakery in Deir Al-Balah on Thursday (October 24), in an attempt to secure bread for themselves and their families.Khalil Al-Shannar, a displaced man from Jabalia, was one of them. He said that he has been waiting since the early morning to get some bread.“I have 14 people in my family - 14 people, and until now I haven't gotten any. And what's the reason? The reason is lack of flour, lack of flour supply to the Gaza Strip, “ he said."If we don't die from the war, we will die from hunger,” added Al-Shannar. Getting enough food to Gaza's 2.3 million people, almost all of whom have been displaced, has been one of the most fraught issues of the war. Aid agencies have renewed their warnings of widening malnutrition and the danger of famine.
