IDF Was "Minutes" Away From Capturing Sinwar, Hamas Says It Killed Israeli Hostage, Injured 2 Others The IDF was "minutes away" from capturing Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar in a Gaza tunnel, according to the commander of the IDF's 98th Division. In an interview with Channel 12, Brig. Gen. Dan Goldfus detailed what they discovered upon reaching Hamas’ leader's “hot” underground compound. The Times of Israel report on Goldfus’ interview did not specify when the raid mentioned by Goldfus was conducted. Israel has said Sinwar is “marked for death” as the mastermind behind the October 7 attack. Hamas military commander Muhammad Deif, who is also considered to be architect behind the October 7 attack, was killed by IDF in July.
