IDF Chief Admits “Failure” As Probe Reveals Troops “Saved Soldiers, Not Civilians” On Oct. 7 | Hamas The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) revealed its first probe into Israel’s October 7 failure to prevent Hamas’s unprecedented attack. The investigation focuses on the invasion of Be’eri in South Israel, which was overwhelmingly destroyed in the Hamas onslaught. The IDF probe into the battle at the kibbutz is the first in its detailed investigations of the many battles of that day. The report highlights the heroism of Be’eri’s local security team as well as the army’s colossal failures that enabled the massacre. The probe, carried out by Maj Gen (res) Mickey Edelstein, a former commander of the Gaza Division, covers all aspects of the fighting in the kibbutz that day. Kibbutz Be’eri became one of the deadliest killing grounds amid the Hamas-led onslaught and the worst attack on a single community. More than 300 terrorists invaded Be’eri, including 100-120 members of Hamas’s elite Nukhba force. During the invasion, 101 Beeri residents were killed and 30 hostages were taken, of which Hamas is still holding 11 in Gaza.
