Haiti, Kenya Launch Joint Operation To Oust Gangs From Port-Au-Prince Haitian Prime Minister Garry Conille announced on August 28 that a joint operation between the National Police and Kenyan forces has begun in Port-au-Prince to address growing insecurity. Conille's announcement followed a shooting in the Bel Air neighborhood, injuring three officers and two civilians. The Kenyan contingent, part of a U.N.-ratified mission to combat armed gangs, marks the first significant deployment since the mission was requested in 2022. The conflict has displaced nearly 600,000 people and left millions in severe hunger.
