The weapon is among the more recently announced additions to the growing family of UMPK (Universal planning and correction module) munitions in Russia’s arsenal. The UMPK adds a pop-out wing kit and a guidance package to a range of existing freefall weapons. FAB bombs upgraded with UMPK have wings that flip out as the weapon is released by the aircraft and a satellite navigation system.The Russian defence ministry emphasised that the FAB-3000 possesses a “combat power that cannot be ignored.” The FAB-3000 is an older Soviet-era bomb that has been modernized with new guidance systems, allowing for precision strikes.This upgrade has provided Russia with a significant tactical advantage, enabling aircraft to deploy these bombs from greater distances.
