Fear of Russian Strikes At "F-16 Base" Rattles Ukraine City, Kyiv General reveals Operational Limits The western Ukrainian city of Starokostiantyniv is on Russia’s radar due to the likelihood of Kyiv basing its Western-supplied F-16s Kyiv there. Ukraine and its Western partners have not given any official indication of where the F-16s will be based. However, a Western defence industry source said the Starokostiantyniv airfield with its Soviet-era partially underground shelters is an ideal candidate. The residents of Starokostiantyniv say tensions are ratcheting up and the the imminent arrival of F-16s in Ukraine will only intensify the bombardments. Though Ukraine is ready to welcome the F-16s, army chief Oleksandr Syrsky has complained about the Russian air superiority.
