California Park Fire Doubles In 24 Hours, Burns 350,000 Acres On July 27, thousands of firefighters battled the rapidly growing Park Fire in northern California, which had more than doubled in size in 24 hours. By Saturday afternoon, the fire had burned over 350,000 acres, about 90 miles north of Sacramento, and remained 0% contained. Cooler temperatures and increased humidity were expected to aid firefighting efforts. The blaze has destroyed 134 structures, prompting evacuation orders and warnings for several communities, including Paradise, previously devastated by the 2018 Camp Fire. A man was arrested on July 25, suspected of starting the fire by pushing a flaming car into a gully on July 24. This fire is the largest among numerous wildfires across the country, which have collectively burned over 2 million acres, according to the National Interagency Fire Center.
