Bangladesh Curfew Eased, Social Media Blocked | 4,000 Students Cross Into India, UAE Trial Slammed Rush-hour traffic returned to the streets of the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka after a week of violent protests that saw nearly 200 deaths. The Bangladeshi government relaxed the curfew from 10 am to 5 pm and opened offices and banks from 11am to 3pm (BST). Bangladeshi Junior Minister of Information, Mohammad A Arafat, claimed a “third party invasion” caused the destruction of a state-owned TV station in Dhaka. Since July 16, at least 197 people have been killed in violence in Bangladesh, according to the leading Bengali-language Prothom Alo daily. The Bangladeshi government has pledged student protesters, who demonstrated against job quotas, would not face legal action or harassment. Media reports said nearly 2,700 people were arrested in recent days across the country. Watch the video to find out more.
