3 US Citizens Face Trial For "Punishable By Death" Acts Over Thwarted Coup Attempt In Congo Three US citizens face trial in Congo over what the army has described as an attempted coup. They are among the 50 defendants in the case and were the first to stand before the judge to hear the charges against them.The actions of the three Americans were “punishable by death”, Judge Freddy Ehume told the military court in Kinshasa.Around 10 assault rifles and various other pieces of evidence were placed in front of the judges. Western diplomats, journalists and lawyers were present for the trial, which is set to resume on June 14.The alleged coup attempt occurred on May 19, when armed men attacked Palais de la Nation that houses President Felix Tshisekedi’s offices.
